This week on Life & Books, me and Brinda Berry chat about building one of my characters–Lathan Montgomery from HUNT THE DAWN (formerly known as Dangerous Dreams).

It might surprise you how he came to me…

How do your characters come to you? Do they arrive fully formed or in pieces and parts?

HUNT THE DAWN is book 2 in the Dangerous Dreams Series and will be out December 2016.

Abbie Roads writes dark emotional novels featuring damaged characters, but always gives her hero and heroine a happy ending… after torturing them for three hundred pages. Her first novel RACE THE DARKNESS will be out October 4th.

I listen to a lot of country music and music in general is designed ( like novels) to evoke an emotional response. So I find many of my characters in music. It may be the whole song that draws out a character or just a line that sparks an idea for the emotional life or attitude of a character.

Let’s try this again. I was in the doctor’s reception when in walks a “Gentleman” wearing all black. Open color, dress pants, and shoes shiny enough to be patent leather. His hair was all white though he wasn’t that old. He left before me. Hubby said that he got into a black Lamboughini. Of course I had to put him in one of my stories.

Barb–I’m intrigued! This guy sounds amazing! Can’t wait to read about him in one of your books!
